COLOGNE - THE DANCE IS COMING BACK
Since Jochen Ulrich's company Tanzforum in Cologne had to close in 1997, there has been no dance company in residence, until today, May 10th, when ex-Freiburg choreographer Amanda Miller and her Pretty Ugly Dance Company were announced as the new Cologne based dance company. Now, seven dance-less years later, a cooperation of the city theatre, the city council, the private Imhoff foundation and the independant Kultursalon association managed to errect a 700.000 Euro budget (of 820.000 Euro needed) which is at disposal for taking off the Cologne company from January 2005 onwards. Playgrounds during the next 4 years of contract will be the Schauspielhaus and the Halle Kalk.

FORSYTHE'S FUTURE
As Frankfurt city council rules out a multi-state financing arrangement, the neighbouring town of Offenbach has "put forward a serious offer" to William Forsythe, according to mayor Gerhard Grandke. If accepted, Offenbach would provide Euro 200,000 annually, thereby facilitating an inter-state cooperation between Hessen and Thuringia, Dresden and Offenbach, and securing the continued existence of the ensemble, at least on a project basis. Munich has also put forward an offer.
Meanwhile, Forsythe has accepted Richard Cragun's offer to act as "artistic consultant" under Cragun's direction at the DeAnima Ballet in Rio de Janeiro. A first evening, entitled "Forsythe@DeAnima", is already in the pipeline and includes a piece which Forsythe developed
with youngsters from the welfare programme. In a further premiere, "A Week with Billy", chief choreographer Roberto de Oliveira takes his
experiences with William Forsythe as his theme.
